
In the above screenshot you can see an animated globe in the background of the desktop. The globe is able to display the current day and night side of the earth quite accurately. Additionally the sun and the moon with it's current phase can be displayed. However, although the size, direction and phase of the moon is right, scientifically speaking it should be about 10 times farther away from earth, the sun should be about 4 times farther away. But then you wouldn't see the moon or the sun so clearly...
To give this preset a more dramatic look there's a lot of 3D movement involved. This means, that the desktop picture has to be updated many times a second, making it quite demanding for CPU power. To lower the demand for CPU power you can place the program icons on your desktop in the black bars on top or bottom of the screen. These parts don't have to be updated, resulting in a considerably lower demand for CPU power. To save additional resources you can switch off several features of the globe like "Bumpmapping" or "Nightside" (city lights).
